Workforce Development

What does Workforce Development mean?

Workforce development includes any program to help immigrants prepare for employment in the United States. It can include job training, getting higher education, English language training, and other skills. The Federal Government provides a variety of workforce development programs as do other state and local agencies.

Studies suggest that immigrants who are fluent in oral and written English earn up to 24% more than immigrants who are not, regardless of their qualifications. With this in mind, work force development becomes critical to helping immigrants reach their potential and prepare them for employment in the United States. Many proponents of workforce development programs for immigrants note that employers who decided to incorporate language proficiency with other job training programs saw a drop in attendance problems, increased job retention, more job satisfaction and increased quality control.
