Division of Workers Compensation

What does Division of Workers Compensation mean?

The Division of Workers' Compensation is a division within the state Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) which administers workers' compensation benefits for the state. The main role of the state's Division of Workers' Compensation is to insure workers' compensation laws are followed, help resolve disputes over work comp claims, provide information to workers about benefits provided in the state, and to help insured workers navigate the workers' compensation system.

In some states like California, the Division of Workers' Compensation is a division inside of the Department of Industrial Relations (DIR). In Florida, the Division of Workers' Compensation is a part of the Department of Financial Services. In Texas, the Division of Workers' Compensation is a division of the Texas Department of Insurance.

Regardless of how the state is organized, the goal of the Division of Workers' Compensation is the same: to help workers get the medical care, lost wage replacements, retraining, and help they need following a work-related incident which has caused injury, disease, disability or death.
