Child Specialist

What does Child Specialist mean?

The child specialist is part of the collaborative divorce team. They are generally an experienced, licensed therapist or psychologist with education and training in child behaviors, childhood stages, and the common challenges of child development.

The child specialist can work with the courts or the parents to address specific emotional and practical day-to-day needs of a child during and after the divorce process. They generally offer some type of feedback or report for the court or the parents to help design the parenting plan for the restructuring of the family. The Child Specialist is a neutral figure on the team, working evenly between the parents, and focusing on what they consider to be in the best interest of the child. Their main goal is to develop a plan to help minimize the devastating impact of divorce on a child.
