Alcohol Education Program

What does Alcohol Education Program mean?

Drivers arrested for drunk driving may be required to take an alcohol education course after they are convicted of their first or subsequent offenses of drunken driving. Each state has adopted state specific minimum operational requirements for alcohol awareness programs. The goal of these programs is to help participants increase their knowledge about alcohol and drugs.

Topics which may be covered in an alcohol education program include societal values related to alcohol consumption, the influence of alcohol advertising, the physical, social and psychological effects of alcohol upon drivers, the relationship between motor vehicle and other accidents and alcohol use, relevant laws relating to the purchase, possession or consumption of alcoholic beverages by minors, drinking patterns and problems of young people including abuse and addiction and decision making skills. If you have been arrested for drunk driving you may have to complete an alcohol education program to either reinstate your driver's license or to fulfill a criminal penalty requirement of the court.
